CNC Milled Insert for Injection Mold Hybrid System

HS-1 CNC/Plastic Injection

This hybrid system integrates a 1) CNC milling machine, 2) CNC Flexible Feeding Robotic Module, 3) Plastic Injection Machine, 4) Flexible Feeding Multi-Tasking Robotic module. The CNC machine makes insert components which are picked and placed into neighboring injection mold for encapsulation into unibody molded part. Then the complete insert molded part is removed from the mold, has runner trimmed(excess plastic placed into regrind machine and finished part put on conveyor for downstream handling/packing. Insert molding and overmolding are two different injection molding processes that produce unique types of products. The overmolding process is done by one material plastic is overmolded over a second plastic material. The base layer is molded first and the additional plastic layer(s) are molded over to form the finished part. This results in a single finished product. 

Insert injection molding occurs when insert injection materials are placed into the mold cavity prior to plastic injection molding. The resulting product is a single piece with the insert encapsulated by the plastic. Plastic injection inserts are placed by the robotic arm to alleviate the need for worker to do this repetitive task by hand with consistent and accurate placement..
